Not All in the Mind by Richard Mackarness

This is the book I most often recommend to all my clients.

A reviewer on amazon.co.uk says: "Food intolerances result in clinical and medical symptoms that cannot be easily traced to a particular food. The symptoms appear in a subtle way and may not be easy to identify. (Food allergies, on the other hand, often produce rapid symptoms, for example where nuts produce anaphylactic shock). This book not only identifies and defines food intolerance but also offers case studies and how to diagnose and treat patients. The style of writing also makes it very easy to read and understand. It is aimed at us, Joe and Josie Public. Not "All in the Mind" deserves to be described as ground breaking in terms of the audience it reaches and the subject matter. But why does it take so long for voices such as Dr Mackarness to be heard? "

The Fat Flush Plan

This is by far the most balanced of the books regarding "carbohydrate addiction". I have found other similar books to fall short in certain areas. They usually get to the bottom of the carbohydrate/insulin cycle but fail on nutrition, and balance causing some people to put on weight instead of losing it! Excellent advice and a must read if you find yourself hungry all the time, sleepy in the afternoons, eating more and more as the day goes on, or crave carbohydrates.

Shopped: The Shocking Power of British Supermarkets, Joanna Blythman

"This is an intelligently written, riveting and very readable book which systematically explodes all the myths we have been fed by the supermarket marketing machine. It is not a ranting, political polemic but a strongly-reasoned argument by someone who knows the world of food inside out and who cares passionately that we have allowed this disaster to happen.
If you ever wondered why all ready meals taste the same, why supermarket fruit and veg looks great and tastes of nothing, if you ever wondered about the real cost of "cheap" food then read this book. Get angry. Then DO something about it. "(Reviewer)
