Hypnosis in Childbirth

The use of hypnosis to control pain is not a new idea. It is certainly the most effective way to have a wonderful and enjoyable birthing experience.
When we experience pain, our reaction is to tense up. In some circumstances this is useful, but during labour the less tense you are, the less pain you experience. It takes a great deal of concentration and effort to overcome this natural tensing. Breathing and all the natural techniques we learn certainly help, but hypnotherapy takes this a (large) step further. Hypnotherapy allows you to totally relax, in mind and body and to view the pain in a completely different light. It is effortless, and your coach works with you to guide you, helping you to maintain a calm, serene state throughout.
Sessions can be arranged to suit you and your chosen coach. There is no specific time to begin sessions. It is up to you how many you feel you would like to have, but I recommend at least three with your coach so that they can practice the technique.
Some moms-to-be like to have regular sessions from early in their pregnancy. They are taught self-hypnosis and relaxation techniques which give them a foundation for a tranquil pregnancy. During these sessions the mother and baby also experience a deep bonding process. In some instances there may be other issues the expectant mom would like to work through, and this is a good time to do that.
It is your pregnancy, your baby, you decide what you want from the experience!
