I don't hypnotise people, I de-hypnotise them! Life has already conditioned them into certain ways of behaving or thinking - I simply put them back into 'normal' mode again!

WITH HYPNOTHERAPY YOU CAN ...

  • Deal with eating disorders or shed excess weight - get to the root of the problem!
  • Stop Smoking - you will be amazed at the fantastic success rate.
  • Say goodbye to phobias, fears or panic attacks! End nightmares, nail biting, exam nerves, jealousy, procratination or insomnia!
  • Improve your performance in sport, business or sex!
  • De-stress and manage your daily anxiety and coping skills!
  • Learn to meditate effectively ... find your own inner 'space'. Gain confidence in public speaking, stage performance or speaking to the opposite sex.
  • Gain more 'spiritual' insight into yourself and your purpose. Control pain ... including pain free childbirth!
  • Relax as you have never relaxed before! Pamper yourself - feel as if you have spent three weeks at a rejuvinating resort after just one hour! It's rather like a wonderful mental and physical massage from within.
  • Just BE the person you really want to be!

General Information about Hypnotherapy - it's not what you think!

Unlike Stage Hypnosis, which is for entertainment purposes, Hypnotherapy with me is entirely therapeutic. The aim is to help clients achieve their goals and to make their life more enjoyable.

Contrary to popular belief, a Hypnotherapist cannot control you or make you do things against your will - neither would we want to! You cannot be hypnotised unless you want to be. You have to be a part of the process. During clinical hypnosis, you are fully able to see, hear, talk and remember. In order to benefit from hypnotherapy, you need to be in a natural state of mind, which utilises the power of your focussed attention and imagination to help provide beneficial change.

Hypnotherapy can help you to get rid of unwanted habits, fears and phobias; help you to control weight; handle stress; boost self-esteem; overcome depression and many other problems that are of an emotional or psychological nature. It is a completely safe, relaxing and nurturing technique.

During this relaxed state, called ‘trance’, there is a heightened susceptibility to beneficial suggestion and a much improved memory with access to 'forgotten' or repressed memories stored in the unconscious of the mind. It is these qualities of the hypnotic state that can be readily used for therapeutic purposes. In itself the hypnotic state is very pleasant and my clients often liken it to feeling as if they have had an all over massage from the inside out!

If you are wondering how deep your trance state will be, it is useful to remember that very few people are able to go into a somnambulistic (very deep) state of hypnosis, and it is not required for most normal therapy. Trance depths vary, but usually only a light trance is sufficient for most healing work to be done.

Some people believe that only weak-minded or gullible people can be hypnotized. Nothing can be further from the truth! In fact, the reverse is true. The more intelligent and strong-willed individuals are generally more likely to benefit from hypnotherapy. Success with hypnosis has to do with your ability to listen, focus, and fully participate in the process.

How Hypnotherapy / Hypnosis Works

Our conscious minds are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to brain function. What many call the ‘unconscious mind’ (bearing in mind that this is not a definitive place in the brain but an analogy to higher consciousness), controls all of our bodily functions without our conscious mind being aware of the process. This higher consciousness also contains all our memories, and the way we react to various stimuli.

For example let’s say a client has a fear of spiders (something most people relate to all to well!). It may be necessary to find the cause of the fear (at a young age her Dad yelped when seeing a spider and her little mind said “wow, if that’s scary for him, this big Dad of mine, how much more dangerous it is for little me!”) but usually it is sufficient simply to reframe the belief that ‘spiders = danger’. In this type of phobia the client is taken through an easy desensitising process, while in trance. At the end of the session, the client’s subconscious mind has accepted that the original belief is no longer valid to them as adults, and sees the truth, in both logic and imagination (spiders are harmless creatures).

Without this reframing, the imagination will almost always win out over logic! That is why a claustrophobic person can tell themselves a million times that “the lift is quite safe”, and yet still panic at the thought of actually getting into it.

It is this ‘reframing of beliefs’ that causes clients to state, as they often do, that their new habits seem "effortless" after hypnosis. Of course you can also get similar results with other kinds of therapy like behavioural psychology, meditation or even positive thoughts, but they take much longer and are not nearly as effective in the long term as Hypnosis. The method you choose depends largely on what results you want. For example, a lady with a fear of flying learned, through behavioural psychology, to handle the fear each time she had to get into an aeroplane. She still avoided flying whenever she could, but she learned to cope when she had to. Contrast that with the many clients who have come to me with a fear of flying and who now look forward to flying because the root cause has been removed! I know which I would choose.

Hypnosis helps in many other ways too, like helping you to understand yourself better, or to understand at a deeper level what is blocking you from getting the best out of life and being the person you want to be.

Many clients choose hypnotherapy simply to improve their lives. There is often a gap between who we really want to be, and who we feel we are now - hypnotherapy with me is an easy way to bridge that gap, to find your real self on many levels.

Why Hypnosis?

Hypnosis goes deep, to the inner store-house of our beliefs and learned responses, which is why it has found wide acceptance in treating disorders such as over-eating and smoking. By getting where the addiction lies hypnosis can suppress the addiction and replace it with positive behavior. In its effectiveness, hypnosis has been compared to prayer, to which it is clinically nearly identical.

Notice that many of these issues are not what we would call ‘problems’ needing “counselling”! There is great value in just increasing your performance in any area, raising your confidence or finding out what you really feel about a decision you need to make. Please come and have a chat if you have any more questions.
