What is Regression Therapy?Regression therapy involves going back to a person's past in order to find healing or to find reasons for current behaviour and thinking patterns. Perhaps you are one of the people who think that it is unnecessary to 'dig around in the past'. In many cases you would be quite right. However, very often it is the one thing that will bring about the most permanent healing, simply because we carry the scars of our past around with us until they are dealt with. In counselling and psychotherapy therapists will dig around in a client's past to find the root of their problems. This information is then dealt with at a cognitive (conscious) level. Hopefully the client is eventually able to move on with a different and more positive outlook. There is no doubt that healing at this level can, and does, take place. One thing that psychotherapy cannot do, however, is to find those memories which have been buried deep in the psyche and are no longer remembered by the client. The subconscious mind protects us in numerous ways. Firstly, it will protect us by burying a painful experience so that it's memory no longer causes conscious pain. Secondly, it protects us by helping us to avoid being hurt in the same way again. A problem occurs when this 'avoidance' is no longer appropriate and is preventing us from living whole, healthy lives, or from having fulfilling relationships. This is where Regression Therapy, as used by hypnotherapists, comes into the picture. Whilst the client is relaxed and in a perfectly safe environment, we are able to access the root of their current problem. Imagine having a small splinter in a tender part of your body. Now imagine that splinter being ignored and left to fester. Eventually there is a large infected area. You can treat that area as much as you like, but until the original little offending splinter is removed, there will never be complete healing. Regression therapy allows us to go directly to that little splinter, without painfully digging around it. Unlike psychotherapy, we don't have to spend years digging for the root causes. We ask the subconscious to show them to us immediately, and there is usually instant healing. What if the memory is too painful to face? We use certain 'distancing' techniques to prevent the client from experiencing trauma if their experiences might prove to be too painful. The client views the event as if it happened to somebody else. The idea is not to experience the event all over again. The whole point of the therapy is for understanding, not to re-live the trauma. While it is true that we often repress very painful memories, often I find that the relevant 'splinters' causing pain and stopping a person from being 'whole' are quite small. It is the reaction to them (in the young subconscious mind that is learning about the world) that caused the festering problem. Let me give you an example. Jeremy was a man who was quite out of touch with his emotions, although he did not feel he needed any emotional healing. He had come for therapy because he felt a sense of failure in his life, and had lost all motivation. We asked his subconscious to show us the root of this problem. The subconscious is very wise, and instead took us to where he had 'cut off' his own emotions. As a small boy he had been deeply affected by something that happened on the news. His parents found it quite amusing, and, not realising how it would affect him, said 'don't be silly' and sent him off to bed. He cried himself to sleep that night, and, in his little mind, he made the connection that his feelings were irrelevant. Clearly what he felt sad about was not the same as what adults felt sad about. Obviously his own emotions could, therefore, not be trusted - he didn't know how to feel the right things at the right time. He made the subconscious decision to bury any emotion he felt so that he wouldn't hurt like that again, for apparently no good reason. Now, this was not a traumatic memory, at least not in the same way that one might recall some terrible abuse. Even if he had remembered it, which he hadn't until that moment, he would probably have passed it off as meaningless. However, once the memory had been retrieved, in context, Jeremy was able to realise why he was so out of touch with his own feelings. He began to take steps to discover himself again and to trust his own emotions. We dealt with his feelings of failure quite easily after that. In standard counselling this 'splinter' which had caused so many problems at other levels of his life and thinking, would probably never have been discovered. I have heard of 'Past Life Regression' - what is that?In most cases regression deals with memories from this lifetime, however past life regression - once considered a 'new age' gimmick - is being written about by esteemed psychiatrists and psychologists who have stumbled upon what seems to be irrefutable evidence of past life. There are also many who feel there is still insufficient evidence, or haven't bothered to look at what evidence there is. Some people spontaneously go to a past life memory during therapy. I have seen some major changes resulting from past life regression. There are also many who ask for a past life regression session purely out of curiosity. Past Life Regression (PLR) has been used to uncover memories from other times and places to resolve or heal emotional issues and physical problems carried over into this lifetime. As you move from life to life you are able to understand patterns of behaviour and aspects of relationships that recur time and time again. By uncovering the source of these issues, healing can commence. Whether you believe in past life or not, there is a higher purpose in regression therapy, and that is to get in touch with your own spirit, or inner core, where there is a font of higher wisdom that only wants the very best for you. It is the one part of you that is absolutely pure, and the part of you that you long to return to. So often people's beliefs are based on what they have been told, or a vague impression they received somewhere along the line, and not on any informed knowledge. For example, most Christians think that to believe in reincarnation is wrong, or unbiblical, but are not aware that the early church accepted the doctrine as quite normal. In fact, a careful look will show that Jesus spoke about it quite clearly. The doctrine was only declared anathema to the church in 533AD! If you are interested in this subject I urge you to do some thorough research. You will find it fascinating! What is Life-Between-Lives Regression?LBL Spiritual Regression takes the client into the in-between life state, where debriefs and planning for the different lives occurs. LBL offers a sweeping view of the overall soul's journey, which not only leads to a much richer soul based experience and healing process, but also a deeper understanding of your place in the universe. Life Between Lives work is not new and has been around for some time and a number of books have been written about it, but perhaps the most well known are Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls by Michael Newton, Ph.D. Life Between Lives regression allow us access to soul memories and to connect with their soul-self. You will bridge your physical incarnations and connect with immortal life in the spirit world. Connected to our eternal self, we are able to see an entire evolutionary karmic growth pattern while mentally residing in the world between lives that is our true home. We learn why bodies and lives were chosen; the fit between the experiences encountered in past and present lives; and the lessons they brought. Clients are able to find the answers to age-old questions such as: “Who am I?” “Why did I choose this life ?” and “What is my purpose?” One of the most profound spiritual components available to individuals who undergo Life Between Lives spiritual regression is direct contact with the personal teachers, angels and spirit guides. The findings reported by Dr. Michael Newton, represent some 7,000 LBL cases spanning a period of over 30 years. Through years of clinical observation it has been noted that a single LBL session promotes enduring positive changes to a client’s life and understanding of purpose. Clients consistently report that finding their place both in the physical world and in the eternal spirit world is the most significant work they have done. I trained with The Newton Institute, with Dr Michael Newton, and in the course of training I had the opportunity to experience three LBL sessions, and each one was more revealing and amazing than the one before. There are some questions that can only be answered from your higher soul, and this is a fantastic way to get in touch with that incredible 'real' you! As a therapist I do not necessarily use the Newton method but prefer to use whatever methods or techniques are suitable for the client. My main objective is to meet the client's needs. Before we do any therapy I will want to know exactly what you want to achieve and what you are hoping the session will do for you. Perhaps you want healing in a particular area, perhaps you want to know why you are repeating certain patterns in your life, or perhaps you just want to reconnect to your soul self. Whatever your purpose is, we will find the answers together.
It may help you to read some personal regression journeys :Neil's journey: "It was an incredible journey that you took me on. I was aware of where I was all the time and couldn't believe that I hade been gone for nearly 4 hours. I have done quite a bit of reading about past lives and near death experiences as well as accounts from mediums and clairvoyants of the spirit realms. But I have always had feelings that I have known some of the places that I have had connections with and people with past life experiences. The LBL was a confirmation for me about my most recent past life as a German soldier during world war 2. I have had very strong feelings of this ever since I was a small boy. What struck me the most was the process of going back there and the anxiety that I was feeling to go back and relive my final moments of that life, even though I knew in myself that I was safe and this was just a time for me to view this as an observer. It was a very powerful and moving experience. Life on the other side in the spirit world was like going home, I have been here many times before and I was aware that this is just one level in the grand plan of all things, and that there are many layers and dimensions that are all interlinked which ultimately take us back to the source. I did surprise myself how quick I could answer some of your questions, some of them I didn't fully understand and took me a little longer to work out what was meant, and I couldn't always give an answer, but it didn't seem to matter. This journey, along with my own life experiences and my spiritual path has helped deepen my understanding of myself and the journey of the soul through its life after life in its eternal and multi dimensional form. Ultimately this along with my personal practice of meditation has helped me find more love and peace within my heart and has given me invaluable experiences to help battle through the release of attachments and fears, and to trust in the flow of things. Thank you once again for guiding me on an incredible journey, bless you. I hope you have great success with this therapy to help others. "
This letter from a client is quite typical: "I would like to thankyou for thesession you have given me with past life and In between life Therapy. I found that going through this process with you to be very effective on my journey of feeling more whole. I feel more centred, more secure & comfortable in knowing who I am now where I felt lost about who I was & although I knew I am strong as a personality, I feel a strength I did not feel before. I never realised something which I found to be just of an interest to me, could be so profound for me. So thankyou for the opportunity of such an experience." AF, Portsmouth.
